Japan: A country in crisis?
"Japan is a country in the grip of demographic crisis. It has the world's highest proportion of over-65s, yet fewer babies are born each year. Is the solution to manage the decline, or is this an opportunity in disguise?"
These were the headlines in yesterday's 'Independent' online . (I think these articles only stay 'live' for a few days so get reading!) Japan, and the UK, would make excellent case studies for Higher pupils to quote in answers relating to the implications of an ageing population. I suggest you read this article and the earlier ones on the BBC and Guardian websites and make some notes to enhance what you are learning in class about this issue.
