Demographic 'State of the Nation'

This posting is primarily for the benefit of the Higher classes who are studying population at present but would be of general interest to all of you. Even F2 might like to click on some of the links to enhance the work they are doing on population and development.

The BBC website yesterday carried an interesting article on the state of the nation's population. Currently the UK population is growing faster than it has for some time (it has just topped 60 million) and it is ageing at an ever increasing rate. "The UK population has broken through the 60 million barrier for the first time in history. And it may soon be breaking other barriers as well.
Like most other industrialised nations, babies born in the UK are far more likely to survive into adulthood than at any point in history. And those adults are likely to live much longer lives."
