Only one month ago it was being reported that the remaining snow patch of last winter in the Cairngorms had melted long before the arrival of this winter's snow. Now, just a month later, the Cairngorms are in the grip of winter and have claimed two young lives. You can read the report of the accident (which, incidentally, happened in the area of the northern corries which F3 have been studying recently) by clicking on the image above.

A Grim Reminder
I opened the newspaper this morning to read the sad news that two climbers from Aberdeen University who were stranded overnight on Sunday in the Cairngorms have died. I thought back to the posting on this blog of 20.10.06 and was reminded how quickly the seasons can change in the Scottish Highlands.
