Alaska : now that's what I call a geont!

If you have been reading my postings over the summer, you may recall this one http://gmpay.blogspot.com/2007/07/more-geonting.html which attracted a couple of comments about Alaska and the promise of some photos. The story behind the photos is that I didn't take them but my little digital camera (borrowed by friends who were going to Alaska on holiday) did! And here are some of the results....

The Hubbard Glacier at the point of calving. For scale, the ice front is about the height of a ten storey building.

Humpback whales

...and 6194m Denali. Denali is an Athabascan Indian name meaning "The High One". It is the name recognized as the proper name by the State of Alaska's Geographic Names Board for North America's highest mountain - Mount McKinley. This is an awesome photograph - the range in the forground has peaks twice the height of Ben Nevis and then you have to look up above the clouds the same height again and some more......

Nice to think these were taken on my camera - I feel as if Iwas there in spirit.
