Gap are in trouble again!

Later in the session Form 2 will be studying the global fashion industry. As part of this unit of work, they will spend some time looking at the issue of 'ethical' clothing - particularly the use of child labour by some manufacturers.
Although many of the big name companies have worked hard to improve their image in this respect, it would seem that there are still examples of breaches of company guidelines. Gap has huge contracts in India, which boasts one of the world's fastest-growing economies. But over the past decade, India has also become the world capital for child labour. According to the UN, child labour contributes an estimated 20 per cent of India's gross national product with 55 million children aged from five to 14 employed across the business and domestic sectors.

GAP have been very quick to act on the findings according to this report on the BBC news web pages today.
