Happy Summer Solstice!

With today's cool and blustery weather it is hard to think of summer. However, some early risers braved the conditions and headed for Stonehenge to see the sun rising on midsummer's day behind the stones which prehistoric man arranged to align with this annual event. Despite the cloudy skies, the pictures of the sunrise are quite impressive.

Meanwhile, in the southern hemisphere, today has been the winter solstice. I spared a thought for the folk on South Georgia and had a look at their webcam. As you can see, it was cold and snowy but sunnier than here..... and while we have shortening days ahead, the residents of South Georgia can now look forward to the 'days drawing out'.

If you link to the S Georgia webcam, remember that the daylight hours are very short at present. In the morning and evening it is dark so you will see nothing!
