World Water Day

Today has been World Water day...
'Coping with Water Scarcity' is the theme for World Water Day 2007, which is celebrated each year on 22 March. This year's theme highlights the increasing significance of water scarcity worldwide and the need for increased integration and cooperation to ensure sustainable, efficient and equitable management of scarce water resources, both at international and local levels'

There are some excellent resources on the World Water Day website which you can access by clicking the logo above. You might, for example, like to look at the photo gallery which shows some beautiful images of people in Asia engaging with water or you could take time to look at the animation which shows how surface water and ground water can be affected by man's activities.

On the same subject, the Guardian website is carrying a slideshow today to show how water scarcity is affecting communities around the world. The image above shows how the combined effects of water abstraction and climate change have lowered the levels of the River Indus in India. Click on the photo to link to the other images.
