Poor old Pluto!

Way back in August of last year in the first posting of the new session , I linked to the news that Pluto had been downgraded from 'planet' to 'dwarf planet'.
Now it seems, according to the BBC website, it is more of a dwarf than previously thought!

On another tack altogether, the sports were indeed a washout - as the pressure map on Friday suggested they might be. The occluded front and the tight isobars brought weather more typical of April than June. The alternative day was originally to be tomorrow. However, as you can see from tomorrow's pressure chart, things are not likely to be very much different from Saturday....

So now we are hoping for better weather on Thursday for the second reserve day! Will it be any better? What do you think? Check it out here .

Finally, there have been a flurry of entries to the GMPAY competition in the last couple of days. I can tell you that there seems to be some confusion between novelists and explorers! However, I have had some excellent captions for the photo competition. Here are some more clues to the identity of the hat's owner....

He is buried in Westminster Abbey and this image shows a fragment of a famous drawing with the hat and its owner
